Ide Primary School – Review of Art and Mock OFSTED Deep Dive
I was approached by Ide Primary School who were intending to have a ‘deep dive’ into art at their next inspection. The School is part of the 'Exeter Learning Academy Trust' but very much run their own curriculum that strongly reflects its position, relationship with the local community and how it makes strong curriculum links across a range of subjects
My challenge with the school would be to undertake a full review of the teaching of art and report back to the art leader and head on my findings / recommendations.
I worked closely with the art leader throughout the day and the day plan was to
- Undertake a joint learning walk of the school environment with the art leader
- Review of the resources available to teach art with
- Review a selection of KS 1 and 2 sketch books
- Scrutinise any port folios / paper work to support the teaching of art
- Discuss what art school improvement had taken place and the impact of them
- Undertake an OFSTED style interview with the art leader comprising of questions / approached that OFSTED undertake themselves
- Interview with Key Stage 1 / 2 pupils
- Interview with member of staff
- Next steps – Where the school is and where next within art
- Feedback to Art Leader / Head Teacher / School link Governor
- Construct a final report and recommendations for the school
The above tasks took a full day to achieve. It is an intense experience but so valuable as having an external pair of eyes with a fresh perspective is so important.
Thank you so much for your time yesterday. I found it both productive and extremely helpful. It is reassuring to know that we are heading in the right direction.
C Barker, Art Leader
